USING OF PRIM JET COLOR’S LACQUERS
   

Lacquer can be applied by using compressed air (by paint-gun), by roller for dense acrylic lacquer or by laminator

 

 

PRODUCTIVITY OF PRIM JET COLOR’S LACQUERS
 

Using roller for dense acrylic lacquer one can cover with lacquer Top Coat or Pre-Coat up to
20 m2 area. Using paint-gun or laminator the coated by lacquer area can be about 30 m2

 

 

RECOMMENDED LACQUER FILM THICKNESS AND TEMPERATURE
   

  Standard thickness of lacquer film on a printout is about 30 μm. On flexible media (e.g. flags,
  T-shirts) we recommend the value 20 μm as a proper film thickness

   

  An operating range of temperatures for coated by lacquer Top Coat printout is from −40°C
  to +60°C. The lacquer Top Coat should be store in cool dry place in encapsulated containers
  (not below +5°C)

*Some lacquers, containing specific components, e.g. components suitable for reinforced scratch/UV resistance, are not giving gloss printout’s surface. LACQUER TOP COAT No. 1

  Lacquers protect printouts against harmful UV radiation, environmental pollution, acid rain and mecha-
  nical damages. Lacquers differ in the lengths of time interval of effective UV protection.

  We recommend using of lacquer Top Coat Standard indoor, lacquers Top Coat Improved and Exten-
 
ded outdoor or for exposition near strong artificial light sources, respectively.

  It is difficult if not impossible to accurately predict how long coatings will last based on accelerated
  exposure data as it depends “where” you are in the world and how the panel is exposed (i.e. North,
  South facing & horizontal, vertical or 45 degree pitch etc.). What can be stated with certainty is that
  products showing better durability on QUV testing will perform better on exterior exposure.

LACQUER TOP COAT - TECHNICAL DATA

 

 

Lacquer Top Coat (patented in the end of 2006) is an universal water-soluble lacquer designed to laminate printouts. It is principally used to secure inkjet ink printouts against the harmful influence of ultra-violet UV radiation, mechanical damages and damages caused by industrial environmental pollution.

 

Lacquer Top Coat is also applied to obtain a glossy and smooth surface of any printout, photograph, graphics and other artistic products, with their simultaneous self-protection against the influence of harmful weather conditions. Lacquer Top Coat protects printouts made on nearly all media, for example PVC, banners, canvas covers, tarpaulin, metal, glass, ceramics, stone and wood.

Product Description

Characteristics

  • Lacquer Top Coat  is prepared on the basis of water acrylic dispersion. The lacquer is water-soluble and after drying-time becomes waterproof.

  • It creates a thin very elastic/flexible homogeneous, smooth matt, satin or gloss layer on the printout.

  • The lacquer was designed using latest technologies, to obtain perfect resistance of coated by lacquer printouts against UV radiation, large temperature fluctuations, wind, a sand in the air carried by wind, fog, salt, 5% of the hydrochloric acid HCl and 5% sulfuric acid H2SO4, 40% ethyl alcohol and nitrogen dioxide in the atmosphere, respectively.

Technical data

  • Drying time is out about 30 minutes in the temperature 20ºC (depending on the kind of coated surface), on the free air.

    This time is long enough, that on a coated by lacquer flexible wide format printout, rising during the drying process lacquer film receives the shape of printout basis and undergoes such deformations as basis. Thanks to this feature do not appear the cracks, bulge or other faults connected with the maladjustment created coatings with printout basis (media).

    Entire time of polymerization carries out 72 hours and after this time the product has full protecting properties.

  • Tests proved that the lacquer Top Coat increases resistance to UV radiation inkjet ink printouts about 18 months up to 5 years (depending on the kind of lacquer). It also protects printouts against mechanical damages.

  • Lacquer Top Coat widens gamut of colors of the printout, which seems to be more expressive and sharp.

  • Lacquer Top Coat does not alter color (it does not become yellow).

Remarks

  • Lacquer Top Coat should be protect against low temperature.

  • We recommend putting the lacquer on using compressed air (by paint-gun), by laminator or by a roller for dense acrylic lacquer.

  • Up to now, how it follows from carried out tests, it is possible to cover by lacquer Top Coat printouts made using each kind of ink and on each kind of surface. However user ought to carry out checking tests just to be sure.

Storage

Comparison of UV resistance of two plotter printouts made using water-based pigmented ink on a Blue Back paper exposed outdoor together during 6 month in Tunisia (tests was carried out by firm WELLCOM, wellcom@topnet.tn). Upper printout was covered by Improved lacquer Top Coat.  Colors on unprotected by lacquer printout faded. Black color lost about 12 % of intensity, red color – about 30% and yellow color- about 50%, respectively.

    Lacquer Top Coat is produced in three versions: matt, satin and gloss. Softer version – satin, is better for example to cover flags, but gloss version has better mechanical scratch resistance.

 

    Moreover lacquer Top Coat is also produced in the version making impossible migration of plasticizers from the depth of the media, on which printout was made, to its surface. This migration process usually manifests as wet, sticking itself surface of printout, particularly when it was made on a cheap PVC media.

 

   A good solution appears to be printing using dye water-based ink and then protection of printout by lacquer Top Coat.

 

   It is worth to turn attention on the fact, that the cost of coating printout by lacquer Top Coat is about 1 € ($ 1.4) for square meter, while using cheapest lamination film, it is a great deal more. Moreover surface protected by lacquer Top Coat has higher technical resistance parameters, than this coated by lamination film during the lamination process.

 

    Lacquer Top Coat can be applied in hard to access places, for example on printouts made on a body of a big motor track.

COMPARISON OF ACCESSIBLE PRODUCTS IN THE MARKET

 

 

On the drawing below are presented printouts coated by different lacquers accessible on the market. The drawings are made using dye water-based ink on an ordinary (xerographic) paper.

 

  Smudges on the left drawing show that lacquer 1 (from other firm) is not waterproof. However on the right drawing it is possible to notice the significant change of colors of coated by lacquer 1 printout.  

 

 

  Lacquer 2 from a next firm causes the whitening of colors on a printout.   Just as lacquer 1 also lacquer 3 is not waterproof.

 

 

  On the drawing is illustrated the influence of lacquer coating on printout’s colors. All printouts was made using dye water-based ink on an ordinary paper. Lacquer 2 and lacquer 4 causes the whitening of colors on the printout. Lacquer Top Coat will keep colors, and a gamut of colors on the printout coated by lacquer Top Coat is the closest to the original picture.  

 

 

  On the drawing is shown the lacquer 3 and 4 influence on colors of dye water-based ink printout. One can see spreading of lacquer 3 what is visible as thick layers on a printout. Lacquer 4 is “dragging” colors and appears fat smudges on printout.  

 

It is worth to note that lacquer Top Coat, contrary to other mentioned above lacquers available on the market (brought from abroad:  Italy, Great Britain, USA), is a water-based lacquer.  It is ecological product without harmful organic solvents.
