Why to laminate printouts ?
Uncoated dye or pigmented inkjet printouts even exposed indoor are loosing quality under influence of various environmental factors unexpected by an ordinary user. These factors are as follows:
LIQUID LAMINATES FROM PRIM JET COLOR
Graphic arts market, especially the segment associated with outdoor advertising requires that printouts have to be protected from the negative influence of weather conditions.
This protection is achieved by lamination of large format printouts, i.e. their enrichment to inure them to water (moisture), color loss, mechanical abrasion, the flow of air, gases in the atmosphere and industrial pollution. Very often the lamination increases visual effect.
So far, films are mainly used for lamination. These films are composed first of all from plastic, and after use must be recycled. The film lamination of printouts is performed in dedicated areas for this purpose with special laminating machines. The adhesive used in this process contains components harmful to the environment (for example, organic solvents), and after some time, may discolor the printout.
An alternative method is liquid lamination, which is perfect for all conditions. A wide range of types of laminates allows the selection of laminate in a specific order. Liquid lamination is stable, fast and cheap. Liquid laminates are mostly used for vehicle graphics and banners to protect the eco-solvent printouts. It is also used for securing canvas, films on flat surfaces such as billboards and banners.
Liquid lamination enriches printouts, graphics, giving better depth and saturation of the colors. There are liquid laminates which gives to printouts various level of gloss - from matt, through satin to super glossy. Using appropriate additives we can give to printout unusual effects such as pearl or metallic reflection, extraordinary abrasion resistance and preventing of plasticizers migrating from the interior of the cheap media to their surface.
On the market are known and used liquid laminates to protect printouts containing organic solvents which poses a serious threat to the environment. Solvents evaporate easily, posing a threat to the health of workers, who are exposed to the inhalation of solvent vapors. Flammable solvents contained in the liquid laminates makes difficult their transport and storage. In addition, many laminates contain heavy metals, organic compounds needed to speed up the drying process (catalytic agent).
Therefore appears requirement to introduce effective, easy to use and friendly to the environment product. Universal water-based liquid laminate from Prim Jet Color, applied with acrylic paint roller, brush or using compressed air devices, with no organic solvents, it is a response to this market demand.
The biggest problem is that the inks and media are not created with the aim of lamination. As a result, many of them are not suitable for hot lamination.
It's already hard enough to match ink to the media, trying to constantly improve their performance. Adaptation laminates to finishing techniques becomes under these conditions less important requirement.
The common opinion is that the printouts made on plotters using hard solvent-based inks not require protective lamination, with the exception of images displayed in very difficult conditions. However, in any situation, dyes or pigments in these inks are subject to destructive effects of UV radiation or other environmental factors, which in the absence of a protective layer on the printout inevitably leads to damage.
Similarly, in the case of the printouts made using eco-solvent ink (soft solvent), exposed indoors, it is believed that there is no need to protect graphics (unless the user wants to raise its aesthetic appearance). However, not only solar UV radiation is a risk factor that indoors is much less intense, but also artificial light sources, air flow, air, moisture, high temperature and gases (ozone, oxides of sulfur and nitrogen, which source is electronic equipment, heating, smoke, smog, car exhaust), can significantly affect the printout quality and durability.
